Mutter

A Mumble client for desktop, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web. Join a server, see who is around, and talk.

Mutter on the desktop: a server's channels and who is in them on the left, the channel's chat in the middle, and members on the right.
A desktop session: channels, who is around, and the chat.

The problem

Mumble is a great protocol with a dated, fragmented client story, especially on phones.

What I built

A shared web client that runs in the browser (through a local Node bridge) and in Electron, plus native SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose apps with their own Mumble protocol implementations. Push-to-talk, voice activation, per-user volume, text and image messages, and a screen and camera sharing extension. Themes and fonts are generated from one shared design source.

Where it is now

Connects to regular Mumble servers on every platform; screen sharing is a Mutter extension so viewers need Mutter too.

One voice-chat client with a consistent design across every platform, connecting to the Mumble servers people already run.

Made with TypeScript, Electron, SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.

  • 5 platforms
  • Screen + camera sharing
  • One shared design source
